Rex is our four-legged kid that, if he were a human, would be covered in Bandaids constantly. He is a rescue puppy that is half Australian Shepard and half Border Collie and has the energy of 5 dogs. When we adopted him at the age of one, he came to us with various abrasions, scraps, scabs and cuts. This was a sign of not only his hard life as a stray but of his personality. He goes at 100 mph no matter what he is doing (we have a patched hole in our dining room sheetrock to attest to this). His constant need for speed tends to put him on the accident prone side.
The other night I let Rex out before bed. Our normal routine. Just a typical night, or so I thought. I let him back in and he followed me to our bedroom. As I was brushing my teeth I looked down at him and noticed a 2+ inch long, 1/4″ wide, gash right above his left eye. I had no idea what had happened. I immediately went to our supply cabinet and grabbed my Dynamite Trace Minerals Concentrate and Wound Salve. I dropped Trace Minerals on the wound to stop the bleeding and disinfect the wound. I then slathered it with Wound Salve. It was obviously hurting him and it was starting to swell. There was no way to wrap it that he would keep on without a “cone of shame” so I just kept applying Trace Minerals once a day for the first few days and Wound Salve twice a day for a week.
By day 7, the scab that had formed on the wound completely came off leaving healthy pink skin. I was amazed at how fast it healed given how large the wound was and that Rex continued to swipe at the Wound Salve with his paws (he liked the taste I think).
After 10 days, the wound was back to his normal white skin color and now we are just waiting for the fur to grow back. We are affectionately calling him Scarface in the interim.
I will never know what happened to him. My guess is he was doing his normal high-speed patrol securing the backyard perimeter for the evening and ran into a stick or branch or possibly he meet an unfriendly raccoon that didn’t like his attitude and squatter’s rights to the land. Whatever caused the injury, I am thankful that I had Dynamite’s wound care products on hand for a quick and complete healing.
Rex’s quick healing, I believe, also came from his great internal health from proper nutrition. Rex is a 100% Dynamite dog. We feed him a combination of raw diet and Super Premium Dog Food along with Dyna Pro and Canine TNT. His body had what it needed for a speedy recovery. I will, however, with Rex’s track record, always have Trace Minerals Concentrate, Wound Salve and Balm on hand just in case.
