Announcing Dynamite’s Second Quarter Year of the Horse Project Recipient
We are thrilled to announce the selection of Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, an all-breed rescue and rehabilitation center, as our second quarter recipient for Dynamite’s Year of the Horse Project. SMM is verified by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. This very deserving rescue organization was a highly nominated contender. The nominations submitted spoke of the love and care that this rescue brings to broken animals in their area and beyond.
Strawberry Mountain was founded in 2005 after rescuing dozens of wild horses from the Sheldon National Antelope Refuge in Nevada. These incredible animals were slipping through a government loophole and being sent to slaughter by the semi load. A passion was born and still burns brightly today.
Throughout the last several years, SMM has been instrumental in developing owner-assistance programs, founding the Oregon Hay Bank, sponsoring equine health fairs, educational opportunities for law enforcement, and they were active in the successful passage of a law that made equine abandonment a crime in their state. They worked with wonderful organizations such as the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and the Oregon Animal Control Council (OACC) to pass the first Aggravated Neglect statute, making repeat offenders and crimes of neglect in the presence of a child a felony offense. They are continually lobbying for legislation for better laws to protect animals. The namesake of their Facebook page, Grace, is one such case that gained worldwide notoriety on Facebook as the “face” for animal neglect and her case in court won new laws in Oregon for the prosecution of neglect and abuse of animals. Her case is currently at the Supreme Court level.
Their successful rehabilitation program is unsurpassed and is supported by local veterinarians, law enforcement agencies and the district attorney’s office. Together, as a team, they are working to end equine abuse and neglect within their community and set a precedence that can be used nationwide.
We applaud the work that they do for the animals and the people they touch. Their work ties directly into Dynamite’s vision: Improving the lives of all creatures! Congratulations Strawberry Mountain Mustangs! Dynamite is honored to partner with you and bring recognition to the work that you do.
From May 1 through July 31 5% of all equine TNT sales will be donated to the Year of the Horse Project fund to benefit Strawberry Mountain Mustangs. Be sure to check our Facebook page over the next few months for other ways to help this fabulous organization.
